McCarron Perfect For Tide

Another day at the office for Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron and the Crimson Tide football team as they subdued the outmanned Catamounts of Western Carolina 49-0 at Bryant-Denny Stadium on a beautiful, bright sunny day in Tuscaloosa. Scoring touchdowns was never in doubt against the now 1-10 (0-8 SoCon) Southern Conference Football Championship Subdivision school.

Alabama (10-1, 6-1 SEC) scored on the first five possessions against Western Carolina to jump out to a commanding 35-0 second quarter lead. A.J. McCarron, at the helm for the first four drives, was a perfect six for six on the afternoon with four of the completions going for 20-plus yards prior to being relieved by reserve quarterback Blake Sims. Amari Cooper was on the receiving end of a 36-yard catch and run to the one-yard line leading to the initial score. Tight end Michael Williams (22 yards) and wide receiver Kenny Bell (34 yards) were two other targets of the downfield explosive plays.

McCarron established a school single season record for touchdown passes with a 29-yard completion to the fourth recipient on his last throw of the day, a 29-yard score to wide receiver Christion Jones. The pocket passer surprised everyone in the stadium including his fellow teammate, right guard Anthony Steen, with a career long 24-yard run up the middle on a second quarter scramble.

Listen to the red-shirt junior signal caller's post game comments on the play of the backups, establishing the single season touchdown passing record of 21 and preparing for the next opponent, archrival Auburn.
