One of the West Coast's top receiver prospects, Devon Allen from Phoenix (Ariz.) Brophy Prep, has narrowed his list to five, taken two official visits and scheduled two more. His most recent trip was to Florida State and FoxSportsNext caught up with his father, Louis, to get the skinny on his trip to FSU, his upcoming trip to Oregon and much more.
Allen is a national recruit in both football and track but his visit to FSU centered mainly around the track program. Mr. Allen comments, "Most of our time was spent with the track team. We got in a few hours late so most of our interaction with the football team was after the game."
Allen has an offer from the track program and is waiting on a football offer. "The wide receiver coach is excited about him. They didn't even think they had a shot at him and just figured he would stay on the West Coast. But all things said, it was a great trip and Florida State will get serious consideration."
This weekend Allen will take an official visit to Oregon. "Devon is in a similar situation with Oregon as he is with Florida State," he says referring to the track scholarship offer. "The football program is still looking to see where they are with their numbers but Coach Frost says that they are still very interested in him playing football."
Allen narrowed his list to five finalists of Florida State, UCLA, Arizona State, Stanford and Oregon, in no particular order. Having visited UCLA in October, where do Arizona State and Stanford stand?
"All five schools are being seriously consider," Mr. Allen says. "UCLA is very high in the mix. Coach Long from Arizona State did an in-home visit this week and Devon has been there unofficially many times and he is considering an official. He is planning a visit to Stanford in January. Coach Anderson is visiting next week. Devon is finishing his application for them soon."
Allen will play in the Semper Fi All-America game in January but that will come before his visit to Stanford, so do not expect a decision to be made during the game.
