Huskers see Hooks

Nebraska is clearly trying to make an impression with Lavon Hooks. The standout junior college defensive tackle from Booneville (Miss.) Northeast C.C. got a visit from three of the hour defensive coaches from Nebraska this week.

Booneville (Miss.) Northeast C.C. defensive tackle, Lavon Hooks, was visited by just about the entire defensive staff this week from Nebraska. The standout junior college defensive tackle visited Nebraska in early November.

"Nebraska was here on Thursday," Hooks said. "The whole defensive staff was here besides the linebacker coach. Bo Pelini wasn't here. He's coming to my house this upcoming week in Auburn, Ga. I don't know what day he's coming to be honest."

The Nebraska staff was laying everything out to Hooks about what could be there for him if he decided to be a Husker. Hooks said that there wasn't any pressure to commit put on him by Nebraska according to Hooks.

"It was mainly about wanting to see if I wanted to seal the deal right then and there. They weren't necessarily pressuring me, but it led to it. They wanted to let me know about the opportunities that they have at their school."

There has been some speculation that Hooks was close to committing this weekend. If he is then he definitely wasn't sure about where he was going to go at the time of the interview earlier in the day today.

"I really don't know right now," Hooks said. "I don't really have a top school right now. Nebraska is still on the list, but there isn't a numbered order to my list."

The Nebraska defensive staff spoke with Hooks about where they see him fitting on their defensive line potentially. Hooks says that he thinks he could fit in at a couple of different spots along the defensive line possibly.

"Nebraska likes me as a three-technique. I feel like I have great athleticism and I think that I could play either the three-technique or the five-technique."

There is a lot of action around Northeast C.C. trying to make a late push or get in front of Hooks. Hooks sounds like he's struggling with everything going on in fact to some extent with the number of teams that he's talking to and stopping by.

"A lot of teams have been here this week," Hooks said. "This week Auburn, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Baylor, Arizona State and some other schools have been here this week and Oklahoma will be here tomorrow. I can sign in December and I might take a last official visit next weekend."

Hooks said that he's looking to trust the coaching staff of the school that he chooses. He wants to make a decision before signing day with possibly another official visit to take. Hooks says that he's considering a visit to Washington, Mississippi State, Miami or Auburn.
