The 6-foot-4, 205 pound linebacker out of Pinson Valley, Ala. got some news of a new offer on Wednesday and it came from an in-state school.
"My coach told me about the Auburn offer first, then Coach [Gus] Malzahn called me after school to tell me about it. Coach Malzahn told me that Auburn is really interested in me and that I have an offer from them."
That news meant something to him and his mother.
"Auburn is a great school and it is nice to get an offer from a school in your home state, so that was great. I have been there before and I like the community around Auburn, they have nice facilities, and it is a big offer. My mom also liked the offer because she would love for me to stay close to home."
A school close to home gave him some big news over the phone Wednesday, but before that phone call, a school all the way across the country visited Pinson Valley High School.
"Oregon was here to see me again and was the third time that they have been here since they have been on the road.
"They have really been recruiting me hard and they really want to get me up there for a visit. I have decided to visit them officially on January 18, so I will go up to Oregon, see what it is like there, and see how I like it."
The Ducks and Tigers are definitely on the four-star's list, but one school still sits a little higher in his mind.
Things may not work out for him to go there though.
"My favorite school have always been Alabama, but they have only offered me as a greyshirt so far," Cunningham said. "I am not really wanting to do that because I have other options right now. Alabama is the school I would love to go to, but I do not think I will go there as a greyshirt. I just do not want to do that."
Everything has happened quickly and Cunningham is taking it all in stride. He has one official visit set, but he will likely take others before he makes his decision.
"I am not going to commit until Signing Day, so I will see what other schools offer, I will get out see a few more schools, and then make my decision.
"I am not sure who else I will visit officially yet, but I know I am looking for a school that offers a good education and I want to go somewhere that I am comfortable around the coaches and the players."
Cunningham finished the season with 194 tackles and 12 sacks. He carries a 3.4 GPA and he has scored a 23 on the ACT.
