Director of Scouting Scott Kennedy moved John Curtis Christian and 2014 CB Terrence Alexander to the No. 1 spot in the FOXSportsNEXT.com Top 50 this week. What's happening with Alexander's recruitment, and which programs pose the biggest threat to dethrone the Patriots from the pinnacle?

  • John Curtis is currently enjoying its No. 1 status but two Texas programs -- Katy and DeSoto -- are nipping at the Patriots' heels. No. 2 Katy takes on 10th-ranked Cibolo Steele at 2:00 P.M. this afternoon at Baylor in a 5A Div. II semi, while No. 3 DeSoto clashes with No. 26 Allen at 6:00 P.M. at SMU (5A Div. I semi).

Northwestern was at Curtis this week to gather additional info about junior CB Terrence Alexander. Curtis senior LB Duke Riley is visiting Minnesota this weekend, and senior DB/RB Brandon Porter is visiting San Diego State. Riley received a greyshirt offer from LSU yesterday.

  • Two additional Louisiana squads are ranked nationally: 5A champ Archbishop Rummel (No. 40) and 4A champ Karr (No. 47). Next year, Karr and Curtis are scheduled to meet in an early-season contest that already has fans salivating. Karr will welcome back five-star Gerald Willis and four-star Devante Noil for their senior campaigns in 2013.

  • Four-star Kendell Beckwith (East Feliciana) hosted LSU's Les Miles and Frank Wilson during an in-home visit this week.

  • Nick Saban was in Louisiana yesterday to make stops at University Lab and Brother Martin. Alabama has offered 2015 RB Nicholas Brossette from U-High and 2014 OL William Clapp from Brother Martin.

  • Brother Martin senior OL Ryan Hoefeld, a Florida State commit, announced he'll take his official visit to Tallahassee the second week in January.

  • North Texas offered Hahnville senior Sergio Medina, who is projected as either a safety or linebacker. Medina could also play running back. His skill set is similar to that of North Texas true frosh Mark Lewis (Livonia). In a crucial district win over Destrehan, Medina rushed for 240 yards and four touchdowns on 40 carries.

  • McNeese State landed a commitment from Archbishop Shaw WR Kent Shelby. A 6-foot-3 senior, Shelby put up big numbers during his career with the Eagles.

  • West Saint Mary three-star safety Trevell Dixon is visiting Houston this weekend. Dixon says he's being recruited solely as a wide receiver now.

  • Vandebilt Catholic QB Elijah McGuire guided the Terriers to the Class 4A quarters a few weeks ago. McGuire, who is expected to play RB and/or WR in college, has an official slated for January with the Ragin' Cajuns. The elusive McGuire has been working overtime to graduate with the 2013 class after being classified as a 2014 up until recently. CajunRedZone.com publisher B.J. Thompson broke the news on McGuire's upcoming visit to Lafayette.
