"It was amazing," Danzey said. "If not the best visit I have taken, I loved it. They treated me like family. Not that I didn't feel it at the other places, but I felt more than I could lay back and be the Devonte Danzey that I am."
Getting the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Malzahn and offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee, Danzey said he got a really good feel for what the head coach is all about while on his visit.
"This weekend and how I've talking to him over the course of the last two weeks or so, he hasn't changed his words at all," Danzey said. "He told me that it's best to tell the truth instead of remembering a lie that you've told."
One of the biggest things that Danzey said he needs to see before making his final decision is who Auburn hires as an offensive line coach. Knowing the Tigers need help at the guard position, he said getting a feel for his position coach is something that is important to him.
"I need at least a quick vibe of the coach I'll be dealing with 90 percent of the time," Danzey said. "Coach Malzahn coaches with the offense, but I'm going to be with my position coach more than the head coach because he's got a big job.
"It's going to be one of his guys that he's worked with," he added about the hire. "He's got a good feeling about this guy that I may get along with him, but I have to make him my friend on my own."
Hosted on his visit by senior offensive lineman John Sullen, Danzey said that gave him a good idea of what to expect out of Auburn and also Malzahn's offense.
"I hung out with Big John and he told me I had a good chance to come in and start and replace him," Danzey said. "It's good to talk with the players because they know the inside and outside. The coaches can tell me anything, but he's been here and experienced it."
A 6-4, 290-pounder, Danzey has taken official visits to all four of his favorites and now plans to sit back and talk things over with his family in Tampa before making a decision on Christmas day.
"I haven't made a decision yet because I just need a little more time to make my decision," Danzey said. "I've had it in the back of my mind to sign on Christmas day. It will be a Christmas gift to my family and whatever school I'm going to."
Danzey said his four top schools at the moment are Auburn, Baylor, Kansas and West Virginia, but he doesn't have a leader. He has three years to play three after redshirting his first season at Hutchinson.
