2016 Gabe Angel Invited to Elite Combine

Wilson Central (TN) High School's Gabe Angel, one of the top 2016 prospects in the nation, has been invited to participate in the prestigious US Army All-American Junior Combine.

  • Name: Gabe Angel
  • Classification: 2016
  • High School: Will attend Wilson Central HS (Lebanon, TN)
  • Position: Running Back/Safety
  • HT: 6-3, WT: 220
  • Scout.com Ranking: NR

  • "My (high school) coach gave me the letter that I was invited (to the US Army All-American Combine)," said Angel. "I was excited about it and I've started working out for it."

Working hard is normal for this talented youngster.

"I work hard and do what the coaches ask," said Angel. "I'm a player who always wants to get better."

Not only is he a hard worker, but he's also a very talented athlete. And college coaches already have him on their recruiting radar screen.

"I've got an offer from Mississippi State," said Angel. "I'm also receiving interest from Tennessee, Alabama, Ole Miss and Arkansas State."

Because he's so young, he's not able to receive letters or phone calls from college coaches just yet. He finds out who is interested when he attends their camps.

"The schools whose camps I go to, their coaches tell me the are interested in me, but they can't contact me because I'm so young," said Angel.

What surprises the youngster is that the college coaches already know who he is when he attends their camps.

"When I go to their camps they already know who I am," said Angel. "It surprises me that they already know who I am when I have never met them before."

What is even more impressive is which coach knows who he is.

"I meet all the coaches but the head coach and the (assistant coach) who will be recruiting me are the ones who know who I am," said Angel.

At every camp the coaches always tell him they will be watching him during the next three-plus years.

"The coaches tell me that I am a good player and that I need to continue working hard and continue doing what I'm doing and that they will be keeping an eye on me during (my) high school (career)," said Angel.

While Angel attended several camps last summer, he plans on going full blast this coming summer.

"I am going to a bunch of camps this summer," he said. "I am going to try and get around to camps in the southeast and maybe one or two up north."
