2015 Small Forward K.J. Lawson Update

Hamilton (Memphis, TN) High School 2015 small forward/wing K.J. Lawson is one of the top players in the class of 2015.

  • Name: K.J. Lawson
  • Classification: 2015
  • High School: Hamilton High School (Memphis, TN)
  • AAU Team: Team Penny
  • Position: Wing/Small Forward
  • HT-WT: 6-foot-7, 200
  • Scout/FSNext Ranking: 3-Star, No. 6 SF
  • Colleges of Interest: Arkansas, Georgetown, Louisville, LSU, Memphis, Miami (FL), Mississippi State, Missouri, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Texas, UCLA

  • Already rated a high three-star recruit on Scout.com, Lawson continues to try to improve his game.

"Since you saw me in the summer, I have been working on my mid-range shot," said the youngster. "That is a lost art in basketball and has been my main focus. I have also tried to improve my layups and compete better against contact. Basically, my game is inside and out. I can play the 1 and 2 and post up against undersized guards in the paint."

He's also a very unselfish player who passes as well as he shoots.

"To be an All-American, you have to get your teammates involved and make everybody around you better," said Lawson

And based on the recruiting attention he may very well earn All-American honors.

"There are a lot of schools that are recruiting me and there are nine that have offered," said Lawson. "Arkansas has offered me. I went to a camp right before school and they offered me. They are on me tough, as well as Memphis and Mississippi State. Missouri has been to our games but I'm not sure if they have offered."

As of now, two, maybe three schools stand out.

"I am open to everybody but I like Arkansas and Memphis," said Lawson. "Those are the main two that I'm focused on. I like Mississippi State but the only thing they need to change is their (adidas) logo."

According to Hamilton High School head basketball coach Frederic Stringer, whomever winds up signing Lawson will get more than just a great player.

"K.J. is like a coach on the floor, " said Stringer. "He knows situational plays and what needs to be done. He also makes the players around him better. And he makes my job a little less stressful."
