O'Connor Planning to Reach out to Michigan

Michael O'Connor was one of the standouts quarterbacks at Michigan's annual summer camp last June. Now the newly classified junior is hoping to revive the connection he forged with the Maize & Blue all those months ago.

Change has come swiftly for Michael O’Connor.  The Canadian transplant informed GoBlueWolverine recently of his transfer from the Baylor School in Chattanooga, TN to IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL and his decision to reclassify from the class of 2015 to the class of 2014.  The moves are part of a plan to maximize his potential.

“I just felt the opportunity to get coached (at IMG) by a former Heisman trophy winning quarterback and NFL quarterback in Chris Weinke and his staff… I’ll be able to get a lot better down here and improve my game,” O’Connor stated.  “I can already see it happening.  Just the improvements I’ve made over the past week have been pretty amazing.”

“Just the ability to come down here in this Florida weather and be able to throw the football every day and train every day and look to get better so I can compete when I get to college.”

Now that word of the talented signal caller’s transfer is making the rounds, his recruitment will likely pick up steam.  He hopes that Michigan will be among those that turn up the heat.

“I think I’m going to touch base with Coach Borges and let him know personally the changes I’ve made and that I’ve reclassified in 2014 so I can build the relationship with them again,” said O’Connor. “Seeing as how I’ll be graduating in 12 months, I think it’s important to start building those relationships now.  Twelve months seems like a long time, but it goes by real fast.  You only through recruiting once in your lifetime so you’ve got to make sure you do it the right way.”

Tennessee, Georgia, UCLA, and Stanford are a few of the others O’Connor plans to reach out to.  As the interest from his suitors becomes apparent he will begin formulating his spring and summer visit plan.

“I’m going to sit down with Coach Weinke and he is going to work out a schedule for me,” said O’Connor.  “I definitely want to hit up the Elite 11 camp.  That’s the most important one for me right now.  In terms of college camps, I want to make it to as many as I can.  I just can’t say which ones right now.”
