5-star staying in-state

Chris Jones' meteoric rise to the No. 2 defensive end spot in the class of 2013 hasn't come without added pressure from several big-time programs across the country. Despite it all, the Houston (Miss.) product will sign with one of the two in-state institutions.

Simply put, Chris Jones' ascent from a little-known Mississippi State commitment to a national story happened overnight. With each showing on big stages, whether it be regionally in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic or at nation-wide events like the Under Armour All-America game, all he's done is impress.

That has led the Houston (Miss.) standout to tough decisions down the stretch concerning his pledge to the Bulldogs despite offers from Alabama, Florida, USC and many others. Jones decided to take a trip to Ole Miss over the weekend to gauge the interest in Oxford, and it made a big impact.

"It went pretty well," he said of the official visit. "I'm going back to Ole Miss on Friday and to Starkville on Saturday."

Jones reports that he will not take any additional official visits.

"It's just them" he said of the two in-state schools. "I'm going to have my mind made up off of these last visits."

Jones ascended up to the No. 2 defensive end in the class behind only the top player overall in the entire class, Robert Nkemdiche.
