After taking his official visit to Georgia State during the January 18th weekend, 2013 QB Brett Sheehan announced that his college decision would come down to Georgia State and South Alabama.
On his official visit to South Alabama during the January 25th weekend, the three-star quarterback made his verbal commitment.
"I went into the weekend thinking I was likely committing to Georgia State," Sheehan explained. "I went to South Alabama undecided, but leaning toward Georgia State.
"Then, I went out with some of the guys on the team and loved them," Sheehan continued. "I also liked the other recruits on campus. We had a lot of fun."
Sheehan stayed the weekend at South Alabama. On Saturday, he was able to tour the campus and view the football offices and facilities.
"When i went to see their facilities, it blew me away," Sheehan explained. "I loved the campus atmosphere as well."
After his tour, Sheehan decided to make his commitment.
"Sunday morning, I had a meeting with the coaching staff," Sheehan said. "I knew it was where I wanted to be, so I made the commitment."
Although South Alabama's campus is much further from his home than Georgia State, the facilities Sheehan will train in became the deciding factor.
"As soon as I walked into the football facilities, I was sold," Sheehan said. "The facilities are as nice as anything I've seen; and the opportunity football-wise is the same whether I committed to South Alabama or Georgia State."
At 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, Sheehan says the coaching staff does not plan to redshirt him during his freshman year and will give him the chance to compete for playing time.
"They're going to have a senior quarterback next year, so when he leaves I could be their guy," Sheehan said. "I'll have a chance to compete for playing time from the get-go."
With a little more than a week until National Signing Day, Sheehan does not plan to take any further official visits.
"I'm 100% with South Alabama."
