Collins Gets A Visit

Talented CB from New Hope (MS) today got a visit from a Southern Miss coach. Find out what he had to say and what might be next for him in this interview with

Trae Collins is a cornerback from New Hope in Mississippi who turned a lot of heads this summer with some great camp performances. After things seemed to die down, interest peaked from a school looking to add another CB, Southern Miss.

"The cornerbacks coach from Southern Miss saw my film, loved it, and made a call to me to start recruiting me," he said. "Then today I got a visit from the defensive coordinator Coach Duggan.

"He said he was going to evaulate me further and he'll make the final decision on whether or not to offer me."

Trae went into more detail about what the two discussed today.

"He just told me about how they want to build the defense and what the new coaches are doing down there," he said. "He told me about the 18 year winning streak too.

"He just wants to restore things there. Last year was not Southern Miss football. They are going to do big things down there."

Would Collins be interested in pursuing a future there in Hattiesburg?

"Oh most definately," he said. "It is in Mississippi first of all which I love. Its not to far away and its a great program with a winning tradition. I'd love to play there."

He also said the coaches talked about how he'd be used there.

"The way I play they see me as a lock-down corner who can be put on the best receiver," he said.

Collins said he's also talking with the coaches at Louisiana Tech and ULL, and he has offers from Alabama State and Jackson State.

He said the next step is to hear if he's going to get an offer or not. If he does, he said he'll visit Southern Miss this weekend. If not, he'll take in Alabama State.

We'll have the follow up soon with Collins, keep it right here at
