Holmes has decided to make the move to the Golden Eagles after being pursued for a long time by the coaches at Southern Miss, who never gave up on their pursuit of the talented local defensive back.
When asked what made him make the switch, he said there were several factors in his decision.
"Just the atmosphere in general man," he said in an afternoon interview with GoldenEaglePride.com.
"When I visited there it was just the people that I fell in love with. The coaching staff was great and they just never let up on me. They showed me they wanted me more than anyone else.
"Also, the players that were there. They are truly a family and I wanted to be a part of the building of something special."
Holmes said the coaches plan to use him in the slot as a receiver, and also on kickoff and punt returns.
"I'll do whatever they ask me to," he said. "They mentioned me coming out of the slot and being a big part of special teams. They said they have a lot of plans for me, and I love Coach Monken and the new offense."
In the end, Holmes said he just wanted to be close to a place he's always called home, south Mississippi.
"This area is home to me," he said. "I'll be right down the road for my family to come see me play. I'm right there for them. The people here in south Mississippi all support me. They are great, I love them down here."
Did the newest Eagle have a message for Southern Miss fans?
"Yeah, I did," he said. "Tell them there is a new show in town, and this recruiting class is going to be something special. Its a new day at Southern Miss."
Indeed. Tyre'oune Holmes is a huge part of it. He'll sign with the Golden Eagles tomorrow on signing day.
