Cortez McDowell is one of the more popular 2014 prospects early in the process. He already holds fourteen offers, including some of college football's elite.
"Right now it's Syracuse, North Carolina State, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Ohio State, Florida State, Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, and Ole Miss," McDowell claimed. "Nobody stands out as of right now. I don't think I'll have a standout school until my senior year, going into our season. Tennessee, Georgia Tech, and Florida State are recruiting me the hardest."
Despite not hearing from the new Syracuse staff, McDowell says he is still very interested in the Orange. Being his first offer still holds a lot of weight for the Locust Grove (GA) standout.
"No I have not," McDowell admitted. "I haven't heard from them since the change. Even with the coaching change and all the other offers, Syracuse is still a school I think of. Just because it was my first offer, and I built that relationship with the coach that offered me (Tyrone Wheatley). It's just based on what they have in store for me up there and their academic programs up there. Now I just want to talk to the new coaches and develop that relationship."
Holding so many offers, McDowell has been a busy man this winter. He has attended several junior days already, with another one coming up this weekend.
"I've been to a couple junior days," McDowell recalled. "I went to Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, and my recent one was Tennessee. I'll be going to North Carolina this upcoming week."
Education is one of the things that stood out about the Orange for McDowell. That, he says, is his most important factor when making his final decision. However, don't expect that decision anytime soon.
'Just my education," the 6-foot-2 safety declared. "That's my main thing. Second is playing time, if I will be able to touch the field early. Or will I probably have to sit out a year. It all depends. But mainly, my education."
"I will probably make my decision on signing day. Just to make sure I can get all of my official visits in so I can make the right decision."
