Mississippi State's brand new freshmen and junior college football players practiced twice Monday, a pair of 70-minute workouts directed at prepping the newcomers for the veterans who will report to campus Tuesday.
"We've spent a lot of time on the mental part of the game," MSU head coach Jackie Sherrill said. "We're fortunate that these guys reported in good condition because we can't really work on the physical part of the game at this point.
"The important thing at this point is just to keep them fresh -- give them rest," Sherrill said. "We want to have them ready when the others get here tomorrow. We don't want them to feel like they're lost."
The newcomers will work one more time without the varsity in attendance, hitting the Shira Athletic Complex practice fields Tuesday morning for another 70-minute workout. The varsity is scheduled to check into the Complex Tuesday afternoon.
