Simmons: Quick Hitters

New offers have gone out, visits have been taken, some big visits are coming up, and some new commitments have gone down. Get the latest out of the south here...

  • Purdue offered Scout 300 wide receiver Josh Malone out of Station Camp (Tenn.) on Tuesday. He has three dozen offers now. He recently was invited to The Opening and he plans to narrow his list down this summer. He plans to visit Notre Dame this weekend.

  • Four-star defensive tackle Lamont Gaillard added an offer from Purdue on Wednesday. He visited Georgia last weekend and Florida the previous weekend. Most feel Florida still leads here for the star out of North Carolina, but he claims no favorites at this time.

  • Southern Miss offered Cartersville (Ga.) 2014 wide receiver T.L. Ford on Tuesday. Ford is a long and rangy wideout.

  • 2015 corner Tyrek Cole out of Miramar (Fla.) added an offer from UCF Tuesday. He has already been offered by Florida, Florida State, and Miami among others. I expect him to be one of the top 2015 corners in the country.

  • Baylor has offered 2014 quarterback Brandon Harris out of Parkway (La.). Harris is a three-star QB on Scout.

  • South Carolina offered 2015 athlete Kerryon Johnson out of Madison County (Ala.) on Tuesday. He has already been offered by Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Mississippi State, and others.

  • Auburn picked up an instant commitment from DeShaun Davis, a linebacker out of Vigor (Ala.) Wednesday morning. When the Tigers offered, Davis committed. He is a 6-foot, 225 pound inside linebacker.

  • Scout 100 rush end Rashaan Evans out of Auburn High School visited Auburn University on Tuesday. He is felt to be an Auburn lean, but he has visited plenty of other schools over the past few months.

  • Nebraska offered running back Mardre London late Tuesday night. London is a big back out of St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) and he has interest in the Cornhuskers. He has one visit set for the summer and that is to Boston College.

  • LSU offered five-star defensive end Lorenzo Carter on Tuesday. Carter said, "Coach Miles made it sound like they offered me a long time ago, but I did not know about it if they did." Carter has about every offer in the book and he says he is open right now.

  • Georgia offered elite sophomore defensive end Shameik Blackshear out of Bluffton (S.C.). He is expected to be one of the best in the South in 2015.

  • Louisville offered North Gwinnett (Ga.) wide receiver Nate Brown. His recruitment is picking up, Illinois offered him last week.

  • Future four-star defensive lineman Davon Godchaux out of Plaquermine (La.) picked up an offer from TCU and Florida State on Tuesday. The 6-4/272 junior had a very strong showing on Sunday at the Memphis Nike Football Training Camp.

  • John Curtis Christian (La.) 2014 safety Matrell McGrawadded an offer from Michigan on Tuesday. He has been one of the hottest prospects in the South in recent weeks. He has around 30 scholarship offers now.

  • Five-star running back Sony Michel plans to visit Notre Dame this weekend. The Irish is one of his finalists. He will commit to the school of his choice on April 26.
