For most prospects, the next step in the recruiting process is to visit or camp at schools that they are interested in. Speaks camped at Mississippi State Wednesday.
"I picked up on a couple of things with (MSU defensive line) Coach (David) Turner (during the camp)," said Speaks. "(When you come to a camp) you can always expect something new."
One thing that you notice about Speaks is how much he appears to love the game. Even during a summer camp where the temperatures are in the high 80s and low 90s, Speaks always has a smile on his face.
"I love the game," said Speaks, when asked about him smiling during one-on-one drills. "You beat up on people, then when they try to come back harder on you, you whup them even more and you smile afterwards (laugh)."
In addition to the MSU camp, Speaks anticipates camping at two other colleges this summer.
"This (MSU camp) is my first camp," said Speaks, who attended Junior Days at Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. "I also plan on going to Ole Miss and Arkansas. That might be it."
So far, Speaks has enjoyed the recruiting process. He's simply taking everything one day at a time.
"(Recruiting) has been good," he said. "I'm pretty much trying to keep everybody the same, taking it all in and just looking at the overview."
When he does attend a school, whether it be at a Junior Day or a camp, there are several things that he is looking at.
"I am looking at how the coaches interact with the players, see if I want to be coached by that coach, looking at the school and everything they put into it," said Speaks.
As of now, Speaks has five scholarship offers.
"I have offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Southern Miss and ULLA (Louisiana)," he said.
He's going to take his time before making a college choice, but unlike other seniors he plans on making a decision before Christmas.
"I really haven't thought about it but I'm going to be a mid-year (graduate), so it'll have to be before then," said Speaks.
