"We talked with him, his mom and Coach (Ray) and he committed today," said Carver High School head coach James Jackson. "Mississippi State definitely loved him."
He also considered Auburn, Murray State, East Tennessee, Georgia Tech and Seton Hall. East Tennessee had also offered.
Strugg said in an interview that I did with him last week before the Mississippi State Elite Camp, "I feel like it is a good school that will help me in my life."
Coach Jackson feels like Mississippi State got a player with a lot of upside.
"Joseph is a tremendous players, great upside, about 6-foot-8 to 6-foot-9," he said. "I call him a swing man but Coach (Ray) calls him a power forward."
Joseph describes his overall game.
"I am a team player and a defensive player," he said. "Offensively, I'm a face up player and a post player. I'm a great shot-blocker who protects the paint."
Two former Carver High School players are currently on the Mississippi State roster, junior Roquez Johnson and sophomore Craig Sword. Mississippi State is also recruiting his teammate, Demetrius Houston.
Strugg is Mississippi State's first commitment in the class of 2015.
