According to Dante dad, Daryel Scott, "(Dante) committed about 45 minutes to an hour ago."
Dante, who unofficially visited MSU this past weekend with his parents, explained why he decided to go ahead and commit.
"I was very comfortable with the administration there and their academics, as well as (MSU head) Coach (Rick) Ray and his staff," he said. "My family and I all thought that Coach Ray was very genuine. And their facilities were amazing."
It appears Coach Ray was just as happy as Dante about his commitment.
"(After I told him) he was screaming and laughing and was very excited," said Dante. "He told me that I made his day."
Academics also played a major role in his commitment.
"He wanted to get (his commitment) out of the way early because he is an IB (International Baccalaureate Magnet) student in the academic program and has a big academic load that he wants to concentrate on as far as trying to get college credits," said his dad, Daryel. "He just wants to focus on his academics and the international trips that he has planned."
Recruiting is not just about recruiting the student-athlete but the entire family. And it appears the Mississippi State coaching staff did a good job of that.
"We not only fell in love with the facilities and the academic program that they have to offer in his field of engineering but also with Coach Ray because he felt very genuine and made us feel right at home," said Daryel. "From what Dante said, (Ray) felt more like a father figure. The academic background of Coach Ray is of a math man and Dante is a math man. And (Coach Ray) and his staff showed a lot of interest in Dante and made him feel the most comfortable from day one out of all of the schools."
Dante had numerous offers on the books with more coming.
"He officially had offers from George Mason, Appalachian State, Kennesaw State, Georgia State and Middle Tennessee State," said Daryel. "And the ones that are showing high interest and will possibly offer him once they see him again are Miami, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Virginia, UConn, Arizona, Memphis. Those are the ones that want to see him one more time."
He's attended numerous camps the past three seasons including the 2012 Clemson Elite Camp, the 2012 Hoop Exchange Montverde Showcase, the 2012 University of Miami Skill Camp, the 2011 and 2012 John Lucas Invitational Campa, the 2010 and 2011 Orlando Junior Elite Showcases and the 2009 and 2010 Adidas Phenom Camps.
As a freshman, Dante averaged over 20 points per game at both schools that he attended, Campbell and Culver. As a sophomore, Dante was chosen as "Player of the Week" by the Marietta Daily Journal and Game All-Tournament Team at the Kreul Holiday Classic in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Scott is MSU's second 2015 commitment, joining forward Joseph Struggs of Carver (AL) High School.
