Mykel Jones adds No. 7

Patterson (La.) 2016 WR Mykel Jones added his seventh overall offer this evening from a West Coast school. Go inside to get Jones' reaction, as well as his current top four (in order).

Add the UCLA Bruins to the ever-growing list of schools that have offered rising sophomore receiver Mykel Jones from the talent-rich small town of Patterson (pop. 6,200) in coastal south-central Louisiana.

"It happened about 10 minutes ago," Jones said earlier. "My dad told me UCLA was going to call. I'd heard they were supposed to offer today.

"Coach (Eric) Yarber said he talked with the coaches about my film and said the offensive coordinator had no problem with the offer being made now."

Yarber wants the opportunity to coach Jones at receiver in the future.

"(Yarber) loves my film," added Jones (6-0, 180-to-185 lbs.). "He said he watched it 10 times. He just said to make sure I stay in touch, and that he'd make sure he got the film to all the coaches.

"He just got back from vacation. He said my film looked great, and he's looking forward to me coming there."

There's plenty of time for the Bruins to gain ground on Jones' top four, which he named in order.

"It's USC, Florida State, LSU and Tennessee," he said. "The two SEC schools go back and forth."

USC was the sixth offer for Jones, who previously camped with the Noles, Tigers and Vols (all have offered).

Per capita, the Patterson Lumberjacks produce a large number of college football signees, including current LSU players Kenny Hilliard and Lorenzo Phillips, Houston standout Trevon Stewart, Ragin' Cajuns LB Tremaine Lightfoot, Louisiana Tech WR Jaydrick Declouette and Justice Jones, a Texas Southern QB who is Mykel's older brother.

Tommy Minton is the long-time head coach at Patterson.
