You play your travel ball with the DeMarini Roadrunners. What kind of player will people see when they see you play?
"You'll see a lot of hustle. That's how I was taught to play. I'm mostly a speed guy but I feel I have all five tools. I usually run a 6.6 but at the USA Trials I ran a 6.4."
You mentioned the USA Trials. How did you do at the trials?
"I had a good showing. A few of these guys (on the DeMarini Roadrunners team) and I are going to North Carolina in August because we made the USA team. 40 players made the team. It was exciting and an honor to make it."
What schools are showing recruiting interest in you?
"So far, I went to Stanford and got an offer from them. Mississippi State is recruiting me. I visited Mississippi State two weeks ago. I did the same with Georgia. I've also been to Duke. I've received interest from Kennesaw State and Kentucky, although I haven't gone there."
What schools have offered you a scholarship?
"I have offers from Mississippi State, Stanford, Georgia and Duke."
When did you start receiving the offers? "I started receiving the offers at the beginning of the summer. My family and I were very surprised by the speed of all of it. We are very excited about it."
What's the recruiting process being like for you?
"At first we didn't know much about the recruiting process and it was going so quick. I almost felt pressured to make a commitment. Now I've slowed it down. I'm going to actually visit the schools when there are students on campus."
Have you narrowed your list of schools down yet?
"I am still interested in Georgia, Stanford and Mississippi State."
What do you like about each of those three schools?
Georgia - "They just got a new coach from Kent State, Scott Stricklin. He seems like a very knowledgeable guy. He took the 2012 Kent State team to the College World Series. That's exciting about them. He also has a good staff. I've also grown up around Athens, Georgia. It's a fun school and provides a good education."
Stanford - "It's a first-class education. That is the main appeal. Coach Mark Marquess, Coach Filter and Coach Stotz are very experienced at what they do. They impressed me. They have been to Omaha a few times, so they do things right there. It's very old school. I went to their camp. They have good facilities."
Mississippi State - "I've talked to their coaches probably the most. I know that Coach Cohen is one of the top hitting coaches in the world. I feel like that is what I need to develop to become a pro caliber player. Coach Mingione works with the outfield guys and he has a real strong faith. I like that about him. He would be a fun guy to work with. The Palmeiro Center is great. You can come in it and work out anytime you want to. But facilities aren't the biggest thing to me."
This past season, Alec hit .350 with 2 home runs for his high school team.
