Skelton Picks Dogs Over Rebels

Dustin Skelton has been catching for the Chiefs of Magnolia Heights. Now a state champion, Skelton has decided to chase championships on the college level at Mississippi State. After visiting Starkville, Skelton has elected to pledge his college allegiance to John Cohen's diamond dogs over an offer from childhood favorite Ole Miss.

"I visited Mississippi State and I just felt at home," said Skelton. "I am just speechless to be honest.

"I can't really explain it, but from the moment I walked in the door over there I knew Mississippi State was where I was supposed to be."

Skelton, a 2016 graduate, chose the Bulldogs over an offer from Ole Miss.

"I grew up cheering for Ole Miss, but I just know Mississippi State is where I am supposed to be," said Skelton. "One of the main differences between State and Ole Miss are the coaches.

"Coach (John) Cohen and Coach (Nick) Mingione just made me feel comfortable and like they wanted me to be a part of their program.

"There's really no comparison."

The Bulldogs had an ace in the hole so to speak in Skelton's friend and teammate Riley Self who is also committed to the Bulldogs' 2016 signing class.

"Riley has been on me for a long time and he's a big reason why I am going to Mississippi State," explained Skelton. "He was always telling me that I need to go be a Bulldog with him and that we could stick together and play together in college.

"I feel great about my decision and I am excited about being a Bulldog."
