Hughes to be a Diamond Dawg

Noah Hughes (6-foot-2, 170) helped Jackson Prep win a state championship last season. When his time at Prep is over, Hudges will take his talents to Starkville in hopes of helping Mississippi State do the same. Hughes picked up an offer from Coach John Cohen on Saturday and the talented junior jumped on it.

"I committed to Mississippi State today," said Hughes. "I had been thinking about playing for Mississippi State for a while now, so when they offered me I went ahead and committed."

Hughes, like most baseball players, can play a number of positions, but the early plan appears to be develop his pitching talents.

"They want me to work hard and come in ready to go when it's time for me to go up there," said Hughes. "Right now they are talking about me pitching, but they are going to see how I develop at other positions.

"When I told Coach (John) Cohen I was committing, he was real excited."

Classmate and teammate Jake Mangum recently made a commitment to Mississippi State, so the Bulldogs appear to be making some real inroads at the MAIS powerhouse.

"I am really excited about everything," said Hughes. "My family is real happy about everything.

"This has just been a great day for me."

As a junior, Hughes was 11-0 with a 2.46 ERA.

Hughes threw a team high 68.1 innings while striking out 75.
