Washington found out first-hand how important he is to the Mississippi State football program when he accidentally walked in the wrong door.
"When I got there I actually went through the wrong door and went into the recruiting center," said the youngster. "Normally, before you can go in there you have to get a pass, but (assistant) Coach (Greg) Knox said, 'everybody knows you here, that's why they let you in.' "
Prior to the game, Washington had the chance to talk to several of the Mississippi State coaches. Head coach Dan Mullen even made a point of walking over to him on the sidelines during pre-game warmup and talking to him.
"I talked to Coach Knox, (assistant) Coach (Geoff) Collins first, then I talked to (assistant) Coach (Deshea) Townsend and (head) Coach (Dan) Mullen," said Washington. "They told me that they were happy to see me there and that they wanted me to be a Bulldog in the future. They said I could commit when I wanted to but they said they really want me. They said I could come in and really help their program.
"Them saying that made me feel special,"
Projected as a linebacker on the collegiate level, Washington made it a point of watching the MSU linebackers play during the game. He was not only impressed with their play but the respect they showed to Coach Collins, their position coach.
"During the game, I watched their linebackers," said Washington. "Coach Collins has done a great job teaching his linebackers. I like that their linebackers, after they make an interception or recover a fumble, they hand the ball to Coach Collins after the play is over. It shows that he is a great coach."
Once the game was over, he was invited into the MSU post-game locker room. He really enjoyed that part of his trip.
"It was great going into the locker room," said Washington. "I watched Coach Mullen give his after game speech. Then, after that, Coach Collins introduced me to all of the linebackers. He also told me what the future would be like and where he would have me lined up with the linebackers."
Overall, the visit left the talented Washington with a great impression of Mississippi State.
"It was great," he said. "When I talked to the players they said this is a good place to be. And I could see during the game and after the game how the coaches treat you."
