McPherson first impressed the Mississippi State coaching staff when he recently camped at State.
"I want to a camp there on Labor Day, and they saw me there," he said. "They asked me to come visit this weekend."
Mississippi State pitching coach Butch Thompson was the one who invited him in for the visit.
"After the camp, I talked to coach Butch Thompson," said McPherson. "I called him a few times and he asked me to come on a visit. After (playing at) Fort Myers (in the Perfect Game WWBA Underclass World Championship) I talked to Coach (Nick) Mingione on the phone. and he told me what I would be doing (on my visit)."
During the visit, he had the chance to tour the facilities, watch a Saturday scrimmage and interact with the coaches and players.
"I really like the facilities," said McPherson, who hadn't been on the MSU campus prior to the Labor Day camp that he attended. "The Palmeiro Center and their workout area are really nice. And I really like all of the coaches. They seem nice and seem to really care about you. They players also seemed really nice and seem like cool guys."
Mississippi State has moved up his recruiting list due to the visit.
"They are definitely up there at the top," said McPherson. "They are one of my top choices."
He is currently considering five other colleges.
"Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Alabama, Auburn and Oregon are also recruiting me," said McPherson.
His unofficial visit to Mississippi State was his first. But he has plans for additional visits during the upcoming weeks.
"I'm going to Oregon next weekend," said McPherson. "I'm also going to the Alabama, Auburn and Vanderbilt camps that are coming up."
As of now, he's not sure when he will make his decision.
"I really don't know when I will make a decision," said McPherson. " I will know which schools I will narrow it down to after I attend the camps and see what they say."
