Tookie Brown Profile
Describe how you felt about Mississippi State after unofficially visiting them in September?
"When I first went down there I just felt like I was home. Coach Ray and Coach Flanigan took me around the locker room and I got to meet the players. I felt like I was already one of the players, too. And Coach Ray and I have a big bond with each other."
What were some things that Coach Ray did that made you believe that you were really wanted by him?
"He recruited me so hard that it showed me that he really cared about me."
When did Mississippi State start recruiting you?
"In August. Coach Flanigan said that I was really good and that he was going to come back and check on me. I didn't know how to react to that. When he came back I was shocked."
Did Coach Ray talk to you about things that he likes about you, not just as a player but as a person?
"He told me he doesn't just want me to improve as a player but as a man, too, on and off the court."
You mentioned earlier that you have a big bond with Coach Ray. What caused you to form that bond with him?
"He showed interest in me not just as a basketball player but as a student-athlete. He also has hardworking players. He likes to get players better and he likes to win."
Did you parents go with you when you visited Mississippi State? If so, what did they think about Mississippi State?
"Yes sir. They loved it. And they love what Coach Ray does for his players and allows them to play their own game."
Did you know much about Mississippi State prior to them recruiting you?
"I did. A guy at my school, (Tennessee commitment) C.J. Thurman, had Mississippi State looking at him."
Describe yourself as a player. What do fans see when you are on the court?
"They see that I am a scoring guard. I am very vocal on the court and get my teammates involved."
What other colleges did you consider?
"Mississippi State was my only offer. Miami, Virginia, Clemson, Georgia and Alabama were coming at me the hardest."
Why did you decide to commit so early in the recruiting process?
"Because I knew there wasn't going to be another coach like Coach Ray."
