Bulldogs Welcome Final Visitors

Nearly a year ago, Mississippi State was putting the final touches on the their second consecutive top twenty five recruiting class. With just under a week to go until signing day, the Bulldogs will need an extremely strong close to make it three in a row. Rankings withstanding, Dan Mullen and his staff have the makings of a strong class with several talented visitors on campus this weekend.

Seven official visitors are currently expected to arrive in Starkville this afternoon to begin their visits and learn more about their options at Mississippi State.

While spots remain limited, there are some priority targets spending the final weekend before signing day with the Bulldog staff.

This weekend's visitors are made up of three four star prospects, three three stars and one unranked player.

A winning combination of commitments from within this group and a pair of earlier visitors could certainly vault the Bulldogs towards the top twenty-five in the final scout.com national team rankings.

J.T. Gray | DB | 6-0/185 | Clarksdale (MS)

Finalists: Mississippi State and Iowa State.
The Latest: Gray has not been shy about sharing his affection for the home state Bulldogs. Gray has been a name of interest throughout the process and his seen his stock soar over the course of his senior season. If the Bulldogs make a move, then expect Gray to join the Maroon parade. Iowa State remains a solid option should things not work out in Starkville.

Marcus Griffin | DT | 6-3/295 | Bellevue (WA)

Finalists: Arizona, California, Mississippi State and Washington State
The Latest: Griffin elected to do most of his thinking about recruiting during the post season. A December visit to Washington state led to three January trips in consecutive weekends. The Bulldogs get the last crack at the talented defensive tackle who has been on the recruiting radar for a few months now. Griffin denies a leader at this point and plans to announce his decision on national signing day.

Jordan Harris | OT | 6-5/295 | Stone Mountain GA)

Committed: Mississippi State
The Latest: Harris, who committed to State during the summer, will be making his first ever visit to Starkville this weekend. Since making his pledge to the Bulldogs, Harris has remained solid. The official visit to MSU will be the only one Harris has taken.

Elgton Jenkins OG | 6-5/270 | Clarksdale (MS)

Finalists: Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State and Temple
The Latest: Jenkins is a late bloomer and a late qualifier. Jenkins is good friends and teammates with fellow visitor J.T. Gray and the pair has talked extensively about playing together on the next level. With some other OL targets headed elsewhere, Jenkins may be in a position to benefit.

Ravian Pierce | TE | 6-4/215 | Plantation (FL)

Finalists: Florida Atlantic and Mississippi State
The Latest: Pierce picked up an offer from Mississippi State back in the spring, but the sunshine stater elected to commit to Arkansas. Pierce's primary recruiter, Charlie Partridge, left Fayetteville to take the head coaching job at FAU. Pierce dropped his pledge to the Razorbacks and was expected to reunite with Partridge, but Mississippi State has become more of a factor as of late. Pierce has family in Mississippi and is the cousin of current Bulldog Rufus Warren

Tee Shepard | CB | 6-1/195 | Holmes CC (MS)

Finalists: California, Mississippi State, Oklahoma and USC
The Latest: Shepard re-emerged on the recruiting radar recently when he made the decision to return to Holmes to complete his associates degree rather than transferring to a junior college program in his home state of California. Mississippi State looks to have the inside track to inking Shepard should he elect to sign next week.

O.J. Smith | DT | 6-2/320 | Bossier City (LA)

Finalists: Alabama and Mississippi State
The Latest: Smith committed to Alabama over Mississippi State and others back during the spring. Despite a recent official visit to Alabama as well as in home visit with Nick Saban, Smith elected to set up an official visit to Mississippi State this weekend. Coach Dan Mullen recently spent some time with Smith and his family and made the official invite to Starkville in person. It will be interesting to see how hard the Tide pushes to keep Smith in the wake of Matt Elam committing to Kentucky over Alabama yesterday.
