Bulldogs' Strong Run Continues

Mississippi State picked up their ninth commitment towards the 2015 signing class earlier today when Louisville standout wide receiver Dontea Jones committed to the Bulldogs over a host of other offers. Jones is considered the top wide receiver prospect in the state of Mississippi for the current recruiting class and has elected to join several other of the state's top players in Starkville.

Jones said last week that he may be making a move sooner than later and today turned out to be the day.

"I actually sat down with my mother and talked about everything last night," said Jones. "I knew Mississippi State was going to be the school I committed to and so did my mom.

"I just feel like it is time to get this over with since I've known where I wanted to go and now I can just focus on my academics."

Jones reports that he shared the good news with area recruiter Tony Hughes earlier this morning.

"I called Coach Hughes and I told him that I was ready to commit," said Jones. "He got to shouting on the phone and he got all excited.

"He said that he was real happy about me coming and that we're going to work hard to do something special up there."

Growing up close to Starkville, Jones has been able to see the Bulldogs grow under Coach Dan Mullen.

"I just can't get over the rebuilding process that has taken place," said Jones. "Mississippi State has sort of come from nothing into something the past few years.

"They are still building up there and I want to be part of that.

"I have seen the hall of fame room and all of that and I want to do something great up there.

"I don't want to just be a player who played football there either. I want to be one of the best in my class and I know I am going to graduate with my degree there."

Jones commits to the Bulldogs over offers from Florida, Miami, Ole Miss and Tennessee among others.

The talented wideout is the ninth commitment for the Bulldogs' 2015 class and he plans to help the staff add to that number soon.

"I am going to be recruiting the top players to Mississippi State," said Jones. "I know Jamal Peters and Malik Dear and I am going to be working on getting them up there with me.

"I am excited about being a Bulldog and we're going to do some big things up there."
