"I had a great visit to Mississippi State," said Smitherman. "I had never been there before, but I loved everything about the visit.
"They showed us around and showed us all of the facilities and everything was really nice.
During the campus tour, the Bulldogs' strength and conditioning program took center stage.
"The weight room at Mississippi State is one of the best I have seen," said Smitherman. "You can really tell that they are serious about getting bigger, faster and stronger.
"It's big and they have everything you need in there."
A campus visit would not be complete without some face time with the Bulldog coach staff.
Smitherman spent a lot of time with Mississippi State corners coach, Deshea Townsend.
"I really like Coach Townsend a lot," said Smitherman. "I feel like he is the sort of coach that I could talk to about anything.
"I know I would enjoy playing for him, if I decided to commit there."
The Bulldogs made a strong move with Smitherman, but have not been able to take the top spot just yet.
"I am not sure when I am going to decide. I may do it this summer or just wait and take it down to signing day.
"I am just waiting to see which school is the best for me.
"I am going to try to stay somewhere closer to home, so my mama can come and see me play.
"She is going to support me and my decision no matter where I go, but I don't want to make it too hard on her to come to all of my games.
"I am going to go to the place where I have the best relationships with the coaches.
"I just want to feel like I'm at home at the school I choose."
