Mississippi State and Ole Miss over the course of the past few weeks, with his trip to Starkville coming most recently.
"I had a good time up there," said Patterson. "It was a good experience.
"I got to spend some time with Justin Malone and he told me what it's really like up there.
"I could tell he was telling me the truth and he told me about how hard they work up there and what all you have to do to get on the field.
"I liked him and I am glad he was honest with me."
The scout national 300 member is keeping his options open and is doing his best not to ignore all of the "advice" he gets from college football fans.
"I try to let all of that go in one ear and out the other," said Patterson with a chuckle. "I have to make my own decision and I have to what is best for me.
"I know people mean well, but I don't really listen to any of that.
"I am just going to go through the process and find the right opportunity for me."
Auburn has been mentioned as a favorite on more than one occasion and the Tigers appear to still be a serious contender.
"I really like Coach (Gus) Malzhan and what he is doing over there to change the culture," said Patterson of Auburn. "They had the big turn around season this past year and I know he plans to do some big things there.
"I have known him since my freshman year, so we go back til then."
Patterson's relationships will be a big part of his decision making process and Mississippi State fans will have some close to the talented big man pleading the case for the Maroon and White in Mississippi State signee, Jesse Jackson and his family.
"I know I am going to get to hear all about Mississippi State this season with him up there," said Patterson of his cousin. "He is going to be on me about coming up there and we're going to have some fun with all of that.
"I still have to make my own decision though, but I know I am going to be hearing a lot from him."
The time frame for a decision for Patterson is abbreviated due to his plan to graduate from high school early.
"I figure that November would be a good time for me to decide, so I can go ahead and finish up my plans to enroll early," said Patterson. "I am going to take my official visits during the season and then make my decision."
