Hawkins Open to New Position Should MSU Offer

Tishomingo County quarterback Blake Hawkins is one of Mississippi's most intriguing prospects. Hawkins has lined up under center for most of his high school career, but the rising senior reports that he is open to a position change should the right schools offer. One of the schools high on Hawkins list is Mississippi State. The Bulldogs hosted Hawkins for junior day recently.

"I had a good time at junior day," said Hawkins. "I have been to several things there and I am real comfortable there.

"I was at the Big Dawg camp last year and I went to three games, so I have been down there a lot.

"This visit was the best one so far, because it was so much more personal."

Hawkins reports that the Bulldogs see him as a pass catcher rather than a quarterback on the college level.

"I went with the tight ends," said Hawkins. "I worked out with Coach Scott Sallach at Big Dawg camp and I was in his meeting.

"We have a great relationship and we stay in touch a good bit.

"If I had the chance to play at Mississippi State or another SEC school, I would be happy to play any position.

"Getting to play in the SEC is a dream come true."

So far, Hawkins has only attended Mississippi State's junior day, but he plans to take in a few other trips during the spring semester.

"I am hearing from Mississippi State, Arkansas, Southern Miss, Louisiana-Lafayette, Tennessee and a few other schools," said Hawkins. "I am going to be going to some other junior days.

"Right now, I am planning to go to a junior day at Princeton."

The trip to New Jersey will not be the only time Hawkins makes a big move this year.

"I am going to be changing schools soon," said Hawkins. "I am going to be making the move to Florence like next week.

"I am excited about getting down there and getting started."
