Country Boy at Heart

Gabriel Campbell went from virtual unknown to one of the hottest names in the state of Mississippi in a few short weeks. Campbell picked up an offer from Mississippi State in early February. Ole Miss and Alabama quickly followed suit. Now more programs are in touch and reaching out to the talented pass rusher about additional scholarship offers.

"I have offers from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Alabama and Alcorn (State)," said Campbell. "I have been to Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Alabama and Auburn so far.

"I am thinking about going to some spring practices at Mississippi State and Ole Miss pretty soon."

Campbell reports to being taken a little off guard by the rush of early attention, but he is enjoying the recruiting process so far.

"It's all going good right now," said Campbell. "Mississippi State and Ole Miss are recruiting me the hardest right now.

"They are messaging me, keeping up with me and sending me a lot of letters.

"I like both of them."

The Bulldogs have a person close to Campbell in 2015 commitment Tim Washington who is committed to Mississippi State.

Washington has done his part to talk up the Bulldogs, but not at the risk of the pairs friendship.

"He (Washington) has talked about Mississippi State a lot," said Campbell. "He said that he would love for us to keep playing together, but he wants me to make my own decision.

"We've been teammates and friends for a long time, but that won't change no matter where we go to school."

Campbell had a break out season as a junior, but the talented three star plans to build on those numbers this fall.

"I have always had the ability to use my hands and keep people off of me," said Campbell. "I just sort of had to learn that I had that ability.

"Once I knew I could do it, then I just worked on getting better at it.

"My goal is to always blow up the blocking scheme no matter what it is."

In addition to being a front line defender looking for something to explode on, Campbell's other outdoor activities involve a bit of gamesmanship.

"I love to hunt and fish and it doesn't matter where I go to college, because I am going to hunt and fish no matter where I go," said Campbell with a laugh. "I am just going to be looking for the best atmosphere where I feel comfortable with the surroundings and all of the people."
