Givens Preparing to Wait it Out

Alex Givens is still work in progress as a college football prospect, but the talented offensive lineman has grown by leaps and bounds both literally and figuratively. As he prepares for his senior season, the Nashville Christian product is the proud recipient of several major college scholarship offers.

Alex Givens profile

"I have offers from Vanderbilt, Virginia, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Cincinnati, Memphis, Middle Tennessee and Miami," said Givens.

"I wasn't sure I would have any offers a year ago.

"My tenth grade year I was only about 210 pounds and my coach told me that I needed to get serious about the weight room.

"Once I got in there and got serious, I started gaining weight and strength in a hurry.

"I am up to almost 275 now."

The Nashville product is rumored to be very close to the staff at Vanderbilt and that the Commodores are a possible favorite.

"I like Vanderbilt and I have spent a lot of time there, but I am still open to all of the schools," said Givens. "I am just going to go through the process and see where I feel the best.

"I have been to Auburn, Vanderbilt and Tennessee so far for junior day visits.

"I am going to see Ole Miss on my spring break, but I may go see Mississippi State too. I am just going to have to see how much time I have."

The talented Givens reports that both the Bulldogs and Rebels are showing him a strong amount of interest.

"I am hearing a lot from Mississippi State and Ole Miss," said Givens. "I am probably hearing the most from Ole Miss, but I hear from both of them."

Heading into spring practice, Givens is still considering his options for a school and a possibly decision date.

"I am just going to see how things go with my visits and then I am going to decide," said Givens. "I am not sure if it will be before the season or not.

"I feel like I will know when it's the right time.

"I want to have a good relationship with the offensive line coach wherever I go, since I will be spending so much time around him.

"I want to get the best education I can get, so when football is over I will still have a good degree to find a great job with."
