Thomas Commits to Mississippi State

Memphis, Tennessee product Deddrick Thomas mentioned earlier this spring that Mississippi State was an offer that he had been waiting for. With a Bulldog offer in hand after a spring scrimmage, Thomas proved that his comments about a possible future in Starkville was more than just idol chatter.

"I am now committed to Mississippi State," said a happy Thomas after today's track practice. "I am glad to get this done and I am happy to be a Bulldog."

The commitment process actually began a few days ago.

"I called and told Coach (Billy) Gonzales on Friday that I was ready to commit," said Thomas. "He told me that he was excited about that, but that they needed to meet about everything.

"They called my coach today and said that they were all geeked up and ready for me to be a Bulldog, so it's official now.

"I am so excited."

Thomas reports that he had considered making a more public proclamation, but felt that now was a better time to make the call.

"I was planning on doing it at the Opening," said Thomas. "I knew where I wanted to go, so I didn't see any need in waiting anymore.

"I just felt this was the right time to do it and just get it all over with.

"I have been thinking about it ever since I got the offer."

The three star wide out reports that his decision was pretty straight forward in the end.

"I just love Mississippi State, I love the campus and I love all of the coaches," said Thomas. "I just know that is the right place for me and I am excited about being a part of everything.

"I haven't even had the chance to tell all of my family yet, because things have happened so fast today, but I know they're excited.

"I am going to have the chance to go to a great school and play for some great coaches and be pretty close to home."

Thomas chose Mississippi State over offers from Cincinnati, Marshall, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt among others.
