"I went to see South Florida when they offered me and I recently went to see Mississippi State and I stopped and saw Auburn while I was on spring break.
"I have been to UCF (Central Florida) too."
Mississippi State was the first school to tender an offer to Welch, so he was eager to see what the Bulldogs had to offer.
"I really had a good time at Mississippi State," said Welch. "Coach (Dan) Mullen was really friendly and Coach (John) Hevesy was really informative.
"I liked both of them a lot and they have a good program up there."
Welch found the Mississippi State campus and academic opportunities a good match for his interests.
"I like the whole small town feel at Mississippi State," said Welch. "They have a great forestry program there and I am looking to go into something like that.
"Mississippi State is a great agricultural school and that's sort of what I am looking for.
"They even have a slaughterhouse on their campus."
South Lake will soon begin their spring practices and shortly thereafter, Welch will be on the road once again looking to find the right college fit.
"I am going to go to as many camps as I can this summer," said Welch. "I know I want to go to Florida and then I want to go to Mississippi State for theirs.
"I may go over to Auburn and I am going to do some others around here."
The decision making process is on going for Welch who has not set a firm time frame for a decision.
"I would like to take my five official visits, so I can see as much as possible," said Welch. "I might make my decision before then though, I am just not sure yet.
"I haven't been to Syracuse yet, so I am not sure what to say about them until I visit them.
"I know that Mississippi State and USF have been good to me and I really like both of them a lot.
"I would say that they are pretty much even right now."
