Jones Adds SEC Tender

Chandler Jones is better known as C.J. to the folks who know him best. C.J. is a prospect on the rise in the southeast. Now that college coaches have been able to stop by Powder Springs as they make their spring rounds, Jones is getting more than his share of looks from college scouts. A few days ago, Jones broke through with an offer from the SEC with designs on even more.

"Mississippi State offered me last Thursday," said Jones. "When I was going down to the field house, I saw my coach talking with a coach from Mississippi State.

"He shook my hand and gave me some camp information and his card."

That brief interaction was not the only communication between Jones and the Bulldogs on that day.

"Later that day, my coach called me over and he told me that I had an offer from Mississippi State.

"I haven't talked to the coach yet, but I plan to soon. I want to see what they have planned."

Jones reports that the SEC option is a big milestone in his college recruitment.

"It really means a lot to me to get an SEC offer," said Jones. "Mississippi State is my first one from the SEC and that's exciting."

The Powder Springs, Georgia product reports that he plans to visit the Mississippi State campus in June and he is considering a visit to Syracuse in July.

As things stand now the Bulldogs and Orange are chasing another program.

"Right now, I would say that Louisville is my leader," said Jones. "I went up there for a visit and it just felt like a family.

"Coach (Bobby) Petrino had a lot of tips for me and advice that will help me during the season.

"I really like everything they had to say."

Schools looking to catch the Cards have some time, but Jones does not plan to drag the process out.

"I want to make my decision before the season," said Jones. "I want to go somewhere that I can play early.

"I am working hard to make an impact early in my college career.

"That's important to me.

"I want to be with coaches that really care about you and they aren't just all about football.

"I want to feel like I am part of a family."
