Rankin In Demand

Martinas Rankin was a prospect of interest for several school schools when his time at Mendenhall High School was done. Rankin took the scenic route through the Mississippi junior college system and is now a prospect in demand for several major college programs.

"So far I have offers from Missouri, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Memphis, Florida Atlantic, Kentucky, UAB, Central Arkansas and a couple more," said Rankin. "Things have really been going good."

Rankin credits his time at Gulf Coast for the spike in his recruitment and his development as a football player.

"Coming to Gulf Coast was one of the best decisions of my life," said Rankin. "It is the best decision I have ever made.

"I am a better football player and a better person after coming here.

"I am bigger and stronger and my technique gets better every single day."

With the spring semester at Perkinston now over, Rankin plans to go check out several of the schools who are looking to sign him.

"I went to Southern Miss for an unofficial visit during spring break, but that's pretty much been it so far," said Rankin. "I am going to see Ole Miss in a couple of weeks and I am going on a visit to Alabama with some of my teammates.

"I want to go see a few other schools and then I will start to have some leaders.

"Right now, I have everybody even, because I haven't really had a a chance to see all of the campuses and meet all of the coaches.

"Once I do that, I will have a better idea of who I want to learn more about."

Like all junior college prospects, Rankin is looking for the chance to play right away, but his decision will be about more than just playing time.

"I want to go somewhere that I feel comfortable and that I know I can get better as a player," said Rankin. "I want to get my education, but I want to go somewhere that gives me a real chance to get to the next level."
