"Alabama, UAB, Auburn and Mississippi State are recruiting me, and I've also talked to South Carolina a little bit," said Whitman, who already has a scholarship offer from one of those schools, Auburn.
Whitman has been surprised by all the recruiting attention at such an early age.
"I didn't really expect this kind of recruiting attention," he said. "It all started the end of summer last year and the start of my sophomore year."
Whitman has attended a few Mississippi State games including their 2014 SEC Tournament game against Georgia this past Tuesday night. He's been impressed with what he has seen.
"I really like the atmosphere (at Mississippi State) and I enjoy being around the coaches a lot. I feel like they know what they are talking about," said Whitman.
The Bulldog coaching staff continues to evaluate the talented lefthander.
"(The MSU coaches) said they like me and they want to see me one more time or something like that," said Whitman, who has seen his fastball velocity increase from 83-85 last year to 85-87 this season.
Whitman has had the chance to talk with most of the coaches at the colleges that is recruiting him. All that he has met have impressed him.
"I really like the coaches at UAB, and I really like the coaches at Mississippi State," said Whitman. "I like (head) Coach (Sunny) Golloway at Auburn. I don't really know much about the coaches at Alabama."
