A Memphis commitment, Melrose High School defensive back Tony Pollard is checking out other schools that are recruiting him. He arrived late to Mississippi State's Thursday and received individual attention from MSU's defensive back coaches Tony Hughes and Deshea Townsend.
"I liked the individual attention," said Pollard. "I learned things from them like how to work my hips better for the next level."
He also enjoyed being on the Mississippi State campus again.
"I like it here," said Pollard, who also will be attending camps at Ole Miss, Tennessee and Vanderbilt in the next few days. "I visited here during the summertime last year. It's a nice campus. I also like (Mississippi State assistant) Coach (Billy) Gonzales. He's a good recruiter. I want to thank him for recruiting me and giving me a chance."
Mississippi State is one of several schools that have either offered him or showing interest in him.
"I have offers from Memphis, MTSU (Middle Tennessee), TSU (Tennessee State) and Austin Peay," said Pollard. "I am also receiving interest from Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt."
Pollard is attending camps to see if there may be other offers forthcoming.
"I'm waiting around right now to see what (offers) come through," he said.
Even if he receives no other offers, he's still very appreciative of the fact that he will be playing college ball somewhere next season.
"Knowing that I will play on the college level makes me want to get through high school even faster and see what college is like," said Pollard.
