Tiano is In

Quarterback Nick Tiano became the 15th member of Dan Mullen's 2015 signing class earlier this evening when he made the decision to verbal commit to the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Tiano collected an offer during the spring, but elected to spend a little time to consider his options before making his decision. The final word came down today.

Nick Tiano profile

Tiano committed to the Bulldogs after spending the day working with the Mississippi State staff in the first of several summer camping sessions.

Once he shared the good news with his future coaches, Tiano and his family were ready to load up on some Maroon and White gear.

"We're pulling up at the book story right now," grinned Tiano. "I am so excited.

"I started to commit earlier, but I wanted to wait until I could come to camp and work with the coaches.

"I am glad that I had the chance to do that, but I am glad to get this done."

Tiano's are recruiting coach is Bulldog wide receiver's boss Billy Gonzales.

The strong bond between Tiano and Gonzales was big, but Dan Mullen's quarterback coaching legacy may have been the tipping point.

Tiano, a long time fan of Tim Tebow, was intrigued by the chance to play for the Heisman winner's position coach.

"I am so excited about his opportunity," said Tiano. "Having the chance to work with Coach Mullen was great and I know that he can get the most out of me.

"I just feel like this is the best fit for me and I can't wait to get up here and be the quarterback."

The Chattanooga, Tennessee resident reports that he had the chance to talk with the Bulldog staff about beingone half of a two quarterback class with Texas gunslinger Chason Virgil.

"We talked about all of that and it's not a problem for me," said Tiano. "You are going to have competition no matter where you go and I have no problem with that.

"It doesn't matter if it's someone in the same class or the older guys, you are going to have to compete against somebody.

"Some schools will tell you that they're going to just give you the spot, but I know I want to go somewhere where you have to earn it.

"I don't want anything given to me."

Tiano chose Mississippi State over an offer from Miami and Tennessee-Chattanooga as well as strong interest from Ole Miss, Tennessee and West Virginia.

The three star quarterback was on a bit of a campus tour in search of scholarship offers including planned trips to Ole Miss and West Virginia, but his journey is now over.

"I have canceled the rest of the weekend and we're going to spend the night in Starkville and then just head home tomorrow," said Tiano. "I am done with recruiting and I am excited about the future."
