Jones Makes the Call

It has been a big day in Starkville. With the commitment of defensive lineman Kendell Jones, Mississippi State collects their third verbal pledge of the day and 16th overall of the 2015 class. The Bulldogs were the first to offer the Clay-Chalkville High standout and that appears to have made a major impact.

"Mississippi State was the first school to offer me a scholarship," said Jones. "They believed in me before I had stars and before I got invited to the Opening or any of that.

"That means a lot to me and I have to say that made a big difference to me."

Jones chose the Bulldogs over offers from Cincinnati, Louisville, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, North Carolina State, South Alabama, Southern Miss and Troy.

"I was thinking about waiting until the opening, but Mississippi State was my top school and I didn't see any reason to keep waiting," said Jones. "I really like all of the coaches there and every time I have been there it just felt like home to me.

"I have a great relationship with Coach (David) Turner and I feel like he can help me a better player.

"I am looking forward to getting back over there and spending some more time with the coaches and the players."

Jones' commitment to Mississippi State is the 16th public profession for the Bulldogs' 2015 class.

The talented defensive lineman believes that the best is yet to come in Starkville.

"I feel like we're putting a great class together, said Jones. "I am excited to be a part of it and I am looking forward to meeting some of the other guys, so we can start building a bond together."
