The Rebels were able to roll out the red carpet first.
"I went up there and spent two or three days," said Rankins. "I have some former teammates up there, so I stayed with them.
"I got to see the campus and all of the facilities.
"I got to see everything and I met all of the coaches and some of the players.
"It was a good visit and I had a good time up there."
Rankins made the trip to Starkville last week.
"This was really the first time I was able to see Mississippi State and it was a great visit too," explained Rankins. "I stayed all day up there and I had a good time.
"I really got a sense of how hard they work and how they are going to do the things they have to do to keep coming up.
"I got to tour the campus and meet with the coaches and they showed me what they have to offer."
Many around the Magnolia State grow up with a rooting interest in the Battle for the Golden Egg that pits Mississippi State and Ole Miss against each other for in state bragging rights.
Despite growing up in Mississippi, Rankins does not favor one program over the other.
"I like Mississippi State and Ole Miss pretty much the same," said Rankins. "They are both great schools with great coaches.
"I have them even right now and I could see myself playing at either place.
"I don't have a leader right now, but both of them are in my favorites.
Rankins reports that he plans to take his official visits prior to making his college selection and that he plans to keep an open mind until he has the chance to see each school in person.
