Bates feels like he learned a lot at the Tuesday Mississippi State camp.
"I worked a lot on technique and learned a lot today," said Bates. "That'll carry over to the other camps that I go to and I'll be able to excel."
He's already been to one other camp this summer and plans on attending several others.
"I was at the ULL camp yesterday and I'm going to the Texas Tech camp tomorrow," said Bates. "I also plan on going to some more camps."
Recruiting-wise, Bates has schools throughout the nation showing interest in him.
"Everybody in the SEC is showing interest," said Bates. "Texas Tech is probably showing the most right now. Mississippi State is showing a lot of interest. Arizona State is showing interest, Michigan, Louisiana Tech, ULL."
Of those schools, close to 15 have offered.
"ULL and La Tech offered," said Bates. "Texas Tech was one of my first big offers, a big offer from the Big-12. Michigan offered right after that. TCU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Tulane, Arizona State, Oregon State, Iowa State, McNeese State, Memphis and Southern Miss have also offered."
With an offer from them and having camped there, Mississippi State is definitely one of the schools that he's seriously considering.
"I love Mississippi State," said Bates. "It's just like Louisiana, it's beautiful. I walked on the campus (before the camp) and it is beautiful, man. I haven't been to too many campuses but this campus is immaculate. And (MSU is) in the SEC. There's a lot of competition in the SEC. I also really like the staff. And the position they offered me is like an outside linebacker, a position that will allow me to drop back and get into my stance and rush the passer. I think my value will increase at that position. And my dream is to play in the NFL someday."
Bates is not quite ready to set a timeframe for when he will commit. He wants to take it slow and easy so that he can make the correct decision.
"I want to take my time and check out all these places before I think about committing," he said. "It's like a marriage. If I should commit to Mississippi State it's like a marriage, it's for the rest of my life. Because of that, I have to take my time and not rush into it."
