Nationally Ranked Kicker Camps at MSU

Rodrigo Blankenship is a name college football fans may want to familiarize themselves with. Hailing from Marietta, Georgia, the Sprayberry High School product has become one of the most high profile kickers in America. With a quartet of offers in hand, Blankenship has interest from scores of other college programs. The soccer style specialist visited Mississippi State on Friday.

"I came here in hopes of getting a scholarship offer," said Blankenship. "They have been telling me that they're interested.

"I wanted to come here and show them what I was capable of."

Blankenship reports that he has the ability to handle all three kicking disciplines, but considers himself more of a rugby style punter.

Several schools have expressed varying levels of interest, but the Georgia native is looking for more options before he makes his college selection.

"UAB, Cornell, Mercer and Army have all offered me," said Blankenship. "Mississippi State is recruiting me, but they haven't said too much about their plans for a kicker yet.

"They told me that they have some guys that are going to compete for the job in the fall.

"I am hoping that they offer and that I can go in and compete with those guys."

Blankenship is not looking to make an on the spot decision, but he reports that he is hopeful that the Bulldogs make a move.

"I think an offer from them could be a catalyst for some other offers," said Blankenship. "I like it here and it's a great school.

"I know sometimes once one school offers then a few others may get on board."
