Thomas to Represent Bulldogs on Big Stage

Memphis Central wide out Deddrick Thomas committed to Mississippi State just over two months ago. Since that time several college programs have elected to ramp up their recruitment of the talented receiver. Thomas is now preparing to take his show on the road to Oregon as he attends Nike Football's The Opening July 7 through the 10th.

"I can't wait to get up there," said Thomas. "I am looking forward to everything.

"I want to see the gear that they are going to give us and I want to just get up there and have some fun.

"I am ready to get up there and compete and play 7-on-7 with my team."

Thomas reports that his future position coach, Mississippi State Bulldog receivers' coach Billy Gonzales has been in touch and has shared several well wishes about Thomas' selection to the prestigious event.

"I talk with Coach Gonzales all of the time and he is telling me that they can't wait to get me up there," said Thomas. "He told me to go the Opening and represent Mississippi State and show everybody what we are building.

"I didn't get to go to camp there last month, but I am looking forward to going to the Big Dawg camp and working with the coaches and seeing all of the other commitments."

Thomas reports that he is beginning to build a bond with his fellow Bulldog verbals.

"I talk with some of them on twitter and I have a couple of their phone numbers, so we message each other," said Thomas. "I am probably the closest to Dontea Jones.

"I met him at a camp and it seemed like every camp I went to I ran into somebody who was committed to Mississippi State or was talking about going up there.

"We all stay in touch pretty good and we talk about what all we're going to do once we get up there.

"We know we're going up there to help build the program up."

A few other schools have reached out recently to test the level of Thomas' commitment to the Bulldogs.

"I picked up an offer from Louisville a couple of weeks ago, so I have been hearing from them a lot," said Thomas. "A lot of the other schools have sort of fallen back, but Vanderbilt has picked it up some and Cincinnati has picked it up a lot.

"I am still solid with Mississippi State though. I still feel real good about my decision and I am looking forward to being a Bulldog."
