Is U-M Close to Offering Washington?

Huntersville (N.C.) Southlake Christian Academy 2016 RB Robert Washington talks possible U-M offer and more.

Huntersville (N.C.) Southlake Christian Academy four-star running back Robert Washington says an offer is imminent from the University of Michigan.

"I just actually talked with [U-M running backs coach Fred Jackson] and he said they were going to offer me later this week," Washington said. "He said he has to wait for offensive coordinator [Doug Nussmeier] to get back in. Because the offensive coordinator actually watched my film and said ‘yeah, we're going to offer him.' He's just not in town. So he wants to do it himself.

And what would it mean to Washington to receive an offer from the Wolverines?

"I have been talking to coach [Roy] Manning and coach Jackson since I have been in the ninth grade," Washington said. "So it would mean a lot, because I like Michigan a lot. It's a great institution. It's great football, great education and it's a great spot with no problems. It's in Ann Arbor. I have been talking to coach Manning for a long time, so I have high interest in the Wolverines." Rated the No. 9 running back in the latest 2016 Scout player rankings, Washington camped at Michigan last summer and admits he already has a comfort level with the Wolverines.

"It is an overall comfort level," Washington said on Michigan. "I have been there four times. It has been easy. You can walk around with coach Manning or Jackson and talk with the group. So it is a comfort level up there at Michigan."

Washington plans on announcing his top-15 schools of interest this August and says the Maize & Blue have good chance of making his top group.

"Michigan has a very strong chance of making my final 15," Washington admitted. "But I don't want to give anything away."

With 31 known offers, Washington already has his pick of the liter when it comes to his future program. He has already been on campus visits to Ohio State, Tennessee, West Virginia, Ole Miss, Michigan State, Michigan, North Carolina, N.C. State and Clemson, and is planning a trip to Florida possibly this June.

As far as what the talented runner is looking for in his program, he says there is multiple factors behind his decision.

"What I am looking for number one – is education," Washington said. "Number two, do I feel comfortable there. Because that's what really matters. After football, you have to feel comfortable on campus. If you're not comfortable around your teammates, then you're going to have a horrible time there. Then, can I contribute as a freshman and get early playing time. So that's really what goes into the aspects of picking a school, and do I like the coaching staff."

Washington says he is planning his commitment in sometime next spring.
