"I committed yesterday," said Pickett. "I called Coach Mingione and committed to him. He offered me and I committed on the spot because they were kind of my dream school. I had never visited there but I had a lot of family that had gone there. My mom graduated from Mississippi State. I have three, maybe four aunts and uncles who have graduated from there. My aunt still lives in Columbus, which is right down the road from Starkville. And some of my mom's cousins have graduated from there. My family told me about Mississippi State. My mom actually had class with (former MSU baseball great) Will Clark."

He pointed out other reasons why he chose Mississippi State.

"It's a really good baseball program," said Pickett. "It's one of the best (baseball) schools in the SEC. And the fans are crazy (about baseball) there. It just seemed like a great fit."

Considered one of the top 10 to 20 players in the class of 2015 according to Scout.com national baseball analyst Kiley McDaniel, Pickett mentioned the things that college coaches have told him that they like about his game.

"Coaches like my bat, my power, my ability to make contact," said the 6-foot-4, 215 pounder. "And I can get my velocity up to 90 to 92 now."

Pickett had numerous schools throughout the nation recruiting him but narrowed his final list to four.

"I also considered UC Santa Barbara, the University of Arizona and the University of South Florida," he said. " Those were my top three (among the other schools)."

Obviously, being one of the most talented members of his class, Major League Baseball may come calling next June when the Major League Baseball Draft rolls around. When asked his thoughts about college baseball and pro baseball, Pickett said, "they are both good but I haven't really thought about it much yet. It is exciting to think about it, though."
