Since his high school baseball season has ended, Padgett has been busy playing, what else, but more baseball.

"I have been playing a lot of baseball, obviously," said Padgett. "I've been playing with (my travel team) The Next Level at some Perfect Game tournaments. We played at the Perfect Game Prospect Wire tournament in South Florida. We've also been to Fort Myers, Sarasota, Atlanta, back to Fort Myers, then Port St. Lucie."

He's also participating in a very prestigious tournament run by Major League Baseball scouts, the East Coast Pro Showcase, All players who play in it are invited by the pro scouts.

"I'm also going to the (individual invitation-only) East Coast Pro showcase in New York," said Padgett.

Padgett is no longer trying to impress college coaches while playing due to getting his college commitment out of the way back in April of this year.

During his recruiting process, because he was so heavily recruited, his visit schedule was similar to what his summer baseball schedule is.

"I visited Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, South Carolina and Mississippi State," said Padgett. "I had offers from those schools. And they were the only schools that I wanted to look into. When Ole Miss, Vandy and Clemson started showing interest in me I had my mind set on where I wanted to go."

Mississippi State was the school that he had his mind set on.

"Mississippi State blew everybody out of the water on my visit there," Padgett. "I knew that was where I wanted to go.

"When I got there, (Mississippi State assistant) Coach (Nick) Mingione was waiting there to welcome us. A lot of schools do that, but just the way he did it, it was so sincere and so personal. I loved it. I loved every bit of it. I could tell the coaches wanted me. I also enjoyed being around the players. A lot of the players talked to me and actually had a good conversation with me. A lot of other schools that I went to (the players) didn't really talk to me. And that has a lot to do with (what you think about a program)."

Prior to the visit, Mississippi State was not really on his mind. Another SEC school was.

"To be honest, I never really thought that I would want to go there because I grew up a (Florida) Gator fan," said Padgett. "But you have to have a good feel about where you want to go. And right after I went to Mississippi State I knew that was where I wanted to go."

Despite falling in love with Mississippi State on the visit, he still wanted to give the other colleges a fair shake. But none of the other schools could match his feelings about the Bulldogs.

"After I took that visit, I had a good month to month and a half to think about it and I still knew that was where I wanted to go," said Padgett. "It was in my heart so I knew."
