While the Mississippi State Bulldogs had always been a favorite, some may have been a little surprised to hear that Bassfield safety prospect Jamal Peters had pulled the trigger on a commitment to MSU just days after announcing Alabama as his leader. Mississippi State picked up eight verbal commitments on Friday, with Peters poised as the crown jewel of an impressive class.

"I knew it was going to be Mississippi State back in June," said Peters. "I had pretty much made up my mind then.

"When I came up for the spring game, I wasn't really feeling Mississippi State that much.

"When I saw what Johnthan Banks did here it just set some high expectations for me."

Peters and his mother made the trip from Bassfield to Starkville for Friday's activities and to commit to Dan Mullen in person.

"It means a lot to me to be able to get a scholarship, so my mama doesn't have to pay for school," said Peters. "I don't want her to have to travel far to see me play either.

"She doesn't really like to travel a lot, so I wanted to make it easier on her to just come down the road to see me."

Peters reports that Dan Mullen was simply overjoyed with the news of his commitment to the Bulldogs.

"He jumped up and squeezed me, so tight" said Peters. "I couldn't breath for a little bit.

"He was just so happy and he told me it was great that I was going to be a Bulldog.

"He told me he was glad that I was coming and that this was a great day for Mississippi State."

After making the call, Peters was able get a taste of what it feels like to play on Scott Field at Davis Wade Stadium.

"I am happy out here," said Peters "I am ready to get out here and put some pads on for Mississippi State.

"I am not going to anymore camps. I just want to take my official visit and try to get a three-peat for Bassfield."

Peters chose Mississippi State over Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Ole Miss and many others.
