Calvin Talks Bulldog Pledge

Mississippi State hit the junior college ranks in hopes of finding an immediate impact player to aid in the pass rush. It appears that the Bulldogs found their man in Jonathan Calvin of Copiah-Lincoln Community College. Earlier this weekend, Calvin made the call and chose the Bulldogs over a host of other options.

"I just felt like Mississippi State was the right place for me," said Calvin. "It's closer to home and that will make it easier for my mama to come to the games.

"I know a lot of people at Mississippi State and I have a lot of family that wants to come and see me play too."

Calvin reports that his friendship with current Bulldog pledge and former Murrah High school teammate Malik Dear was a bit of a factor as well.

"Malik and I have known each other for a long time," said Calvin. "We're friends and former teammates.

"We have talked about everything before I committed.

"We are planning to do some big things at Mississippi State now."

Calvin credits Bulldog defensive line coach David Turner for his approach to recruiting.

"I just feel real comfortable with Coach Turner," said Calvin. "He never rushed me or anything like that.

"I am going to enjoy playing for him.

"He told me that he's expecting me to work hard and be ready to come right in and play.

"He said he needs me to get up there and rush the quarterback."

The Co-Lin standout is eager to begin the 2014 season, but admits that he has spent some time thinking about next season.

"Mississippi State fans can expect me to get out there, play hard and make plays," said Calvin. "I am going up there to get the quarterback and help the team win games."

Calvin chose Mississippi State over Auburn, Miami, Tennessee, Texas A&M and many others.
